Resources for PsyD students

Resources of Note for PsyD Students

In addition to PsycINFO/PsycArticles and the other content that can be found using OneSearch, here are some specialty resources, that tend to take a clinical approach. PsycINFO includes a detailed thesaurus of related terms that can be helpful at the start of a project to identify professional jargon that will help with searches in many different databases.

Resources specifically for the PsyD program

  • DSM-V: The library has the DSM-V and related works in Psychiatry Online.  DSM-V is in print in the Reference Collection behind the Service Desk, RC455.2.C4D55 2013 (also SCID-5 clinician books right next to it). Older DSMs are in the Stacks.
  • psychotherapy.net - clinical psych practice video collection, subset selected by your faculty

Videos: Proquest Academic Video Online collection has many clinical psych videos

Other databases

Various resources purchased for the new medical program have substantial psychology/psychiatry content. Many of these have a diagnosis/disorder focus as the most useful starting point. Because they are mostly intended for MDs, look for "psychiatry" as the clinical area in addition to "psychotherapy".

  • Health and Psychosocial Instruments - information about behavioral assessment tools
  • CCOHS: Academic Support Program - Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety - has extensive "mental health" health and safety fact sheets
  • AccessMedicine (McGraw-Hill) - textbooks, videos, patient education including several relating to psychiatry and psychotherapy
  • DynaMed - provides "clinical decision support" documents; includes information about psychiatric disorders
  • Embase - citation database for systematic reviews, drug safety monitoring and evidence-based research and practice; Emtree tree of subject terms includes "mental disease"
  • JAMAEvidence - Evidence-based practice research summaries, also indexes all of the McGraw-Hill textbooks
  • JBI Evidence - Evidence-based practice research summaries
  • Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews - Evidence-based practice research summaries
  • StatPearls - key concepts and theories with citations to seminal works in psych therapy topics
  • TRIP Database - clinical search engine with evidence focus - indexes international government publications in addition to journal articles
  • Stat!Ref - major medical handbooks like Merck as well as citations to journal articles with an evidence quality evaluation (with links to PubMed which will get you to the full text)
