This "bookmarklet" helps you get off-campus access to library resources. Click the bookmark to reload the current page through the UPEI Proxy server. If you are off campus, this may give you access to a journal article or book, if we have licensed access.
This bookmarklet is a small bit of javascript that doesn't require you to install anything, just drag a link into your toolbar.
Drag the above link to your bookmarks bar.
Safari or Google Chrome or Edge
Click and drag this "via Proxy" link to your "Bookmarks" bar
Firefox
- Right click on this link: "via Proxy"
- select "Bookmark This Link" -OR-
- click and drag that link to your "Bookmarks" toolbar
You might see a security alert that the "favorite may not be safe", although it is. Click "yes" to continue.
Notes:
- If the bookmarks toolbar is not visible in your browser, you can try to enable it under the View > Toolbars menu; in Chrome, try Ctl-Shift-B.
- The bookmarklet is compatible with most web browsers and platforms as long as your bookmarks or favorites allow javascript.
- You can also save the bookmarklet in your bookmarks folder instead of the toolbar.
If you need a tool to "unproxy" a URL that already has the proxy modification, you can use this in Safari, Chrome:, Firefox and Edge - use the same instructions as above to "install" it in your toolbar/bookmarks bar: "UnProxy"
Bookmarklet for copied URLs
The above bookmarklet reloads the page you are already on. But sometimes you may need to give the URL to the proxy server because going to it directly first redirects you to an error/login page.
This bookmarklet prompts you to paste in a URL and uses that.
Drag this to your bookmarks bar just like the Via Proxy one. Firefox users should follow the same steps as above for this one.
Important: it will only work if you are already on a website page, not an empty "new" tab.
We recommend using the library's home page as a good page to be on, or even this page.
Exceptions: this may not work for vendors that require a specific UPEI "token" in the URL. These include Infobase, Gale, Naxos, Can-Core, and Classical Music Library. You may just have to start with the proxied link on this website for those.
